Notes from the Classroom: Employees for the Day

by Jennifer Wiggen, Senior Educator

Jack and Paxton King got to spend the day with the education team to see what it would be like to work at the Conservancy! Their day started off in Fleming Environmental Education Center where they helped with the reptile care of two of our ambassador animals, Thor and Hulk, our Yellow-Belly Sliders. They assisted Tim Chisholm, Coastal Educator, with feeding and enhancing their enclosures with new plants and rocks. Before departing Fleming they helped Tim troubleshoot our digital microscope and collected new specimens to be viewed for the day.

After a quick lunch at Mike’s Bites we headed out to assist with our Family Beach Fishing program! Jack and Paxton are avid fishermen and they were a huge help. They helped guests with baiting their hooks, teaching them how to cast and even brought out some of their own fishing resources to share! The family we had with us was from Minnesota and this was their first time fishing in the ocean! We capped off class with the seine net which Jack and Paxton helped with. Overall, it was a great experience and we loved getting to work with them. We can’t wait to see them back next summer!
