Adopt-a-Turtle
Your adoption supports a loggerhead sea turtle hatchling born on one of our beaches on Bald Head Island. Each adoptive parent is an important part of our Sea Turtle Protection Program and sea turtle conservation efforts on the island. With your adoption, you’ll receive a personalized adoption certificate, photo and information card, sticker, and a special notification from our team when your hatchling makes it to the water!
Your adoption supports a loggerhead sea turtle nest laid on our Bald Head Island beaches. Adopt-a-nest parents are an important part of our Sea Turtle Protection Program and sea turtle conservation efforts on the island. With your adoption, you’ll have the opportunity to be inside the ropes for your nest’s excavation, which means there may be a chance for you to see a hatchling make it to the ocean! Additionally, the nest’s protective cage will feature a sign with your name. You will receive personalized emails when the nest has been laid and when the excavation will be scheduled. At the end of the season, you’ll also receive a summary of the entire sea turtle nesting season from our own Sea Turtle Biologist, Paul Hillbrand.
Your adoption supports a loggerhead sea turtle who nests on our Bald Head Island beaches. Adopt-a-mom parents are an important part of our Sea Turtle Protection Program and sea turtle conservation efforts on the island. You’ll have the opportunity to be inside the ropes for ALL excavations of nests laid by your adopted mom! Additionally, each of the nests’ protective cages will feature a sign with your name. You will receive personalized emails when your adoptive mom lays a nest, birth announcements for each nest detailing the hatch date and nest success, and invitations to associated excavations. At the end of the season, you’ll also receive a summary of the entire sea turtle nesting season from our own Sea Turtle Biologist, Paul Hillbrand.
Legacy sea turtles are the moms who repeatedly nest on Bald Head Island beaches. As an adoptive parent, you receive the opportunity to symbolically name an identified individual turtle. Your adopted turtle will have this given name forever, or as long as we document her on Bald Head Island. You will receive a personalized letter detailing the known history of your turtle: when she was tagged, her tag info, and how many years she has been documented nesting on Bald Head Island. You will be notified every year that your turtle returns to nest on Bald Head Island, and receive birth announcements and invitations to excavations for each nest. At the end of each season that she nests, you will receive an in-depth summary of your Legacy’s season from our Sea Turtle Biologist, Paul Hillbrand.
