2025 Sea Turtle Protection Program Highlights
  • 58 loggerhead sea turtle nests
  • 4,760 hatchlings to the water
  • Legacy turtles we saw: Sloopy, Strawberry, The Lovely Mrs.Bites, and Willine
  • 950 hours spent on patrol
  • 8,000 miles of beach driven
  • 700 red flashlights given to the community
  • 6 satellite tags deployed
  • 2 messages in a bottle found
2025 Education and Program Highlights
  • 6 Brunswick County Public Middle Schools participated in our Barrier Island Botanist program, totaling 1,024 students (or 1,024 uncrustables!)
  • 4,484 education program participants
  • 30 nature artists participated in our newest program this summer
  • 35 sunsets viewed on sunset kayaking tours
  • 19 off-campus outreach events
  • 10,000+ visitors to Fleming Education Center
  • 293 WSTD participants
  • 2,000+ Turtle Trot runners; 5,800+ miles
2025 Conservation Team Highlights
  • 151 wildlife rescue calls (& counting!)
  • 12 alligator spotlight surveys
  • 12 terrapin tallies
  • 63 patches of invasive beach vitex removed
  • 180 water samples taken for creek water quality monitoring
  • 2 Johnson Sustainability Graduate Fellows supported
