Volunteer at Bald Head Island Conservancy

We seek motivated, friendly, and reliable volunteers to help us achieve our vision of championing the sustainability of barrier islands through environmental research and stewardship. Island visitors and residents are invited to join the Bald Head Island Conservancy’s team by becoming a volunteer!

Interested in volunteering?

Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer on their own, although younger volunteers are welcome to assist alongside a parent or guardian. For teens and high school students, we are also able to offer externship and job shadowing opportunities on a case-by-case basis.

Outreach volunteers/docents assist with maintenance of education spaces including Fleming Environmental Education Building, Campus Nature Spaces and Maritime Forest Trails. They interact with visitors as exhibit interpreters at the touch-tank, help facilitate hands-on activities and assist with programs when needed.

Event volunteers help with our 5 K Turtle Trots, we rely on our volunteers to help set up, break down, assist with timing and work at the packet pick up.  We also welcome volunteers to help with our yearly Fishing School.

Retail Volunteers work alongside our team in our non-profit gift shop, Turtle Central

Island residents can provide support to our hard-working interns in a number of ways, from serving as career mentors to signing up to donate a meal.
