Kids Night Surf Fishing

The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers an exciting hands-on experience for kids to learn how to fish at night! This program is designed for kids aged 10-15 years old with prior fishing experience. 16-17-year-olds can also participate if they have or acquire an NC Coastal Recreational Fishing License.

Fishing from the surf at night can be more productive than during the day as more fish come closer to the shoreline to feed and there is less disturbance from swimmers. Participants will learn how to use surf rods and reels to catch fish active at night. However, surf rods can be difficult to handle for younger children and beginners.

The location of the program is based on the fishing conditions on Bald Head Island and will be sent to participants prior to the program. All equipment and bait will be provided, so no need to bring any gear.

A parent or guardian must stay with the child participants during the program at no additional cost. The registration for the program ends 60 minutes before the start time. The program is a great way to introduce kids to fishing and the exciting experience of catching fish at night!
