Hand-On Dissection Class

The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers a unique and interactive educational experience with its coastal specimen dissection program. This program is designed for individuals who are interested in learning more about marine life, specifically through hands-on experience with dissecting specimens such as squids or spiny dogfish sharks.

Participants of the program will have the opportunity to explore the anatomy of these fascinating animals, gaining insights into their biology and behavior. The program is suitable for individuals aged 8 and up, making it an excellent activity for families with children. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the program is held indoors in the BHIC classroom.

During the program, participants will be guided through the dissection process by knowledgeable staff members who will explain the anatomy and physiology of the specimen. They will also provide insight into the animal’s unique adaptations and how these have contributed to their survival in their environment.

This program is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marine biology and learn about the fascinating creatures that inhabit coastal waters. It provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature, and learn more about the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem.

Held at the Conservancy: This program takes place inside our Education Classroom.
