Sponsor Spotlight: Mike’s Bites

Mike Thomasen, owner of Mike’s Bites, the Island-favorite food stand offering refreshing summer snacks to Conservancy and beach goers alike, is also a continued Sponsor and supporter of the Conservancy.

Thomasen has been connected to the Conservancy and Island since 2010. “My father worked for the Conservancy doing maintenance and I helped him renovate the dorm rooms and house for the interns,” Thomasen recalled. “I also helped him do odd jobs around the campus.”

Through that, Thomasen built relationships with the Conservancy staff, soon obtaining the old lighthouse Generator House found at the heart of the Conservancy campus, where he then created and opened Mike’s Bites. Mike’s Bites has been a summer must-visit ever since.

When asked why he decided to become a Sponsor, Thomasen shared “I enjoy being a Sponsor, which aids in the protection of sea turtles. I also enjoy the educational activities and camps they provide for the children.” For Thomasen, “making the kids happy is the best part of the job.”

Thomasen teased new menu items to be offered at Mike’s Bites this summer, including new signature hot dogs, as well as fresh subs and wraps, made to order. Islanders, long-term visitors, and, of course, our Conservancy interns can look forward to new color changing souvenir cups for Italian ice, which can be brought back to the stand all summer for discounted refills.

Thomasen and the Mike’s Bites team are “looking forward to a busy summer and appreciate everyone that supports Mike’s Bites.”
