Atlantic Realty Professionals, owned by David Berne, has been in business on Bald Head Island for over 20 years. David’s parents, Bill and Billie Jean Berne, and godfather, Thad Wester, and wife, Lee, built the first two homes on BHI in 1973. Dr. Berne and Dr. Wester helped start the BHI Conservancy 10 years later.   

David remembers his father and godfather’s enthusiastic commitment to educating their children and others about the importance of conservation and preservation, which is why his company has supported the Conservancy for over 20 years through Gold and Platinum sponsorships, donations, and picnic sponsorship.   

“My commitment to the Conservancy is born out of that education and the many memories I have growing up on the island in the 1970s,” shared David.  “From surf fishing and exploring the beaches to navigating the creeks and the maritime forest – I want my kids and grandkids, as well as other children, to be able to learn about and enjoy BHI’s nature, just like I did.”

Jim Brown first visited Bald Head Island in 1975 and experienced the beauty and saw the potential of developing the Island.
