by Jennifer Wiggen, Senior Educator

Join us for the first-ever BHIC Butterfly BioBlitz! Become a community scientist and help us track the butterflies of Bald Head Island.

There is no experience necessary! All you need to do is download the iNaturalist app and if you see a butterfly, take pictures and upload them to the iNaturalist app! You can participate on your own or come to some of our events happening over the weekend!

How You Can Participate

Step 1: Download the iNaturalist app on your mobile device

The iNaturalist app is free and can be found in the App Store. Our partners at the Museum of Life & Science have created a useful how-to video

Step 2: Discover nature places like Bald Head Woods Maritime Forest, Kent Mitchell Trail, and The Common at Cape Creek Station during the BioBlitz Weekend of September 23-25 2022

Step 3: Start making observations!

Take a picture and upload it to iNaturalist — whether it’s in your own backyard, the maritime forest, marsh or at the park, you can help us gather valuable data about the butterfly populations on Bald Head Island.
