Giving Tuesday 2023

#GivingTuesday is a global movement of radical generosity. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving, we celebrate generosity by working together to do good and give back. This year, Giving Tuesday will be on November 28.

GivingTuesday 2023: Wildlife Response and Protection

Bald Head Island Conservancy’s Emergency Wildlife Response team affords the safety of both wildlife and people on the island. Conservancy staff respond to injured or distressed animals any time of day, including birds, turtles, snakes, alligators, and mammals. If necessary, we transport the animals off-island to Sea Biscuit Wild Life Center or the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Hospital for care and rehabilitation.

Sea Turtle Protection allows us to better understand and care for local sea turtle species. Using specially equipped utility vehicles, our team conducts nightly beach patrols for nesting and hatching sea turtles. When encountering a turtle, the team deploys a range of research techniques to gather data that allows us to better understand these amazing creatures.

Our Goal: $15,000

This year, all Giving Tuesday donations will go toward covering program costs for our Emergency Wildlife Response and Sea Turtle Protection teams. Every dollar counts: this year, an anonymous family will be matching donations up to $8,000! Every donor will receive a special BHIC #GivingTuesday sticker.

Giving Back on #GivingTuesday

On November 28, BHIC staff will be participating in an all-day island cleanup to remove litter and debris from Bald Head Island’s natural areas. We will be working near the marina, the BHI Creek kayak launch, North and South Bald Head Wynds, and around the BHIC campus. If you’d like to participate or stay up to date with our progress, keep an eye on our social media platforms for hourly updates on where we are and what we’ve been doing!

The Bald Head Island Conservancy exists to discover, learn, conserve, and preserve the natural wonder of Bald Head Island, but we can’t accomplish that mission without working together. With your support, we can ensure that our island home remains a beautiful place that can be enjoyed by people and wildlife alike for generations. Please consider making a donation or volunteering with us for #GivingTuesd
