Where We Are
The Bald Head Island Conservancy is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 whose mission is to protect, preserve and promote the natural environment of the Smith Island complex. This unique area includes Bald Head, Middle and Bluff Islands, all of which are bounded by the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern North Carolina.
In its role as the islands' environmental advocate, the Bald Head Island Conservancy sponsors and facilitates scientific research of benefit to this barrier island environment, and it provides diverse activities to enrich and enlighten the islands' many visitors and residents.
As a subsidiary corporation and partner of the Conservancy, The Smith Island Land Trust complements these efforts by preserving significant properties in perpetuity, ensuring that land within the island complex will be forever protected in its natural state.
Our tagline of Conservation - Preservation - Education succinctly summarizes the focus of these organizations.

It is the purpose of this site to enlighten our virtual visitors to the many on-going programs and activities sponsored by the Conservancy and its partners, and to provide information for those who may wish to support our efforts. As a 501 (C-3) nonprofit membership organization, we are able to continue this work through the generosity and commitment of our many members, island visitors and other supporters. Please know that your support of our work is greatly appreciated! |
